Garden Design

Having your garden designed is exciting, but it is also a huge commitment and investment. Getting it right first time is key.

My typical process is explained below:

Initial consultation

If you give me a call I will arrange to meet with you at your property so that we can spend time talking about your space and your hopes for it. Walking through the garden will enable me to assess the possibilities of the site considering the surrounding area; levels; aspect; soil; time-scales and budget. A written brief and detailed fee proposal will then be prepared following which we can agree the next stages of the process based on your requirements.

Detailed Design Proposal

Site Survey & Analysis

Site surveys are an essential part of any good garden design. Typically I will carry out a detailed site survey and make visual records of the site. In some instances I may be able to use existing plans and depending on the complexity of the site the services of a professional surveyor may be required.

Detailed Design

This is the stage where you will start to be able to visualise your new garden and get excited. Using the information gathered from the consultation and site analysis I will produce a series of drawings to illustrate the design concept for the space which we will then meet to discuss. The detailed design shows planting and landscaping plus details of any bespoke elements such as pergolas or water features. Elevation and perspective drawings will be used as appropriate in order to convey the design and enable you to visualise your new garden.

Planting Plan, Plant Sourcing & Planting

Good planting which provides year round interest will make a garden come alive and plants feature heavily in my designs.

A detailed planting plan will be drawn up taking in to consideration the local conditions and your preferences. An accompanying plant schedule (a comprehensive list of all of the plant quantities and sizes required) will be prepared. Typically I will be on-site to supervise or carry out the planting and I can also assist with sourcing and procuring the plants.

You will receive a maintenance schedule for your garden which can include after care visits to ensure that the garden continues to develop well.

Construction & Installation Tendering

Once you have seen the design you will be keen to begin the build and I can then compete any further drawings and documentation required by a contractor to complete the work. I can either recommend a contractor, or you may prefer to do the work yourself or use your own contractor. Either way I will work hard to ensure your project is delivered to the highest of standards working in a flexible, practical and efficient way.

Management

During the build I can make site visits, as agreed, to ensure that the project is being delivered as expected.

Once the project is complete I can provide a garden maintenance schedule for you, or a gardener, to implement. I can also revisit the garden on an annual basis.
